Ashford Cricket Club have run an annual tour to South Devon every year since 1947, only missing out in 2020 (due to Covid) and in 2023 (due to administrative problems). For most of this time, the tour has been in late May; this timing takes advantage of both the Spring Bank Holiday and the school half term to allow players and their families a chance to relax in beautiful surroundings whilst enjoying playing and watching some cricket. The grounds in Devon are some of the most picturesque in the country and being in the area where the cream tea was invented, the teas aren't too bad either.

The tour offers everyone the chance to get to know their clubmates and their families better. The teams are of mixed abilities and often have players who have represented all of the Men's XIs, some Junior players and Women all in the same team. This offers a unique opportunity for players. The games are all friendlies and are played in the right spirit. There are usually a mixture of formats played during the tour.

The area offers many other distractions for tourists. There is of course the coast and sea which offers swimming, walks, boat trips and sandcastle building. There are also indoor swimming pools for the less hardy swimmers. There are many golf courses in the area from putting greens and crazy golf through informal pitch and putts to full size par 72 courses. There is something in Devon to attract the whole family.

Normally, there is a gala dinner during the tour and awards are given for achievements. This is an opportunity to share your hobby with your family. Many of the non-players have made good friendships on tour in the past and continue to spend time together,

Players are welcome for all or part of the tour. If work or other commitments make attending for the entire time difficult, please come for the days that you can. Players are also not expected to play in every game. The club are exploring accommodation options at the moment, but you are not obliged to use this. If you have a preference for accommodation that would suit you and your guests better, please feel free to arrange your own.
