Ashford's Ladies secured another trophy last night, in the Surrey Women's Indoor Juniper Green League. The evening's first two matches saw both Shepperton and Twickenham have wins over Epsom, meaning that all three sides were still in with a chance of winning.
Next up was Ashford v Shepperton, and Shepperton attacked the Ashford bowling, losing only one wicket on their way to a fine score of 100. Jenny and Becky got Ashford's reply off to a good start, and that was carried on by Katie Butler and Harri. Retirements meant that once again it was Sarah who got the responsibility for the final over, and she kept her cool, she and Katie Brown taking the Ashford score to 101 off the last ball, and with the match win, securing the title.
Although they could no longer win the tournament, Twickenham wanted to finish off with a win, and scored steadily, looking for a run off every ball. Two brilliant catches by Katie Brown helped Ashford pick up 4 wickets, but Twickenham were still able to post a formidable score of 106. Once again Ashford were in touch with the required rate from the start, but this time the loss of wickets cost them, and they couldn't get across the line, their first defeat of the tournament.
Harri picked up the player of the match gin for the first game, and Katie Brown got yet another sports voucher for the second, completing a clean sweep of 6 awards for the 6 games.
We have now qualified for the ECB Southern Regional finals, on 15th March at Stoke Mandeville, with the winners of that going on to the national finals in Leicester in April.
